Juliette Legler is Professor of Toxicology and Environmental Health and Chair of Toxicology at the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. She is also Professor of Toxicology at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Utrecht University. From 2016-2017, she led the Environment and Health Theme, a multidisciplinary group of researchers within the Institute for Environment, Health and Societies at Brunel University London. She remains affiliated with Brunel University as Honorary Professor. From 2001-2015, she was employed at the Institute for Environmental Studies, VU University Amsterdam, where she was Deputy Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biology.
Her research focusses on understanding how exposure to environmental chemicals affects human and environmental health, and developing novel testing methodologies to predict and prevent harmful exposures. An author of over 130 scientific articles and book chapters, her research on unravelling the long term health impacts of early life exposure to environmental chemicals has influenced international chemicals regulation and policy. She is also a dedicated teacher, and has developed, delivered and coordinated programmes, modules and laboratory practicals in toxicology, development biology, environmental toxicology and chemistry at the BSc and MSc level. In 2012, she was recipient of the VU University’s Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences teacher of the year award
